Dear Nutmeg Aspirin Community,

In our last newsletter, we highlighted the good news about Ivermectin, and this week, we're scratching our heads, wondering why Dr. Kory's Senate testimony about Ivermectin* was taken off of YouTube after 6 million+ views. Given the evidence and testimonials, we are curious why this information is being censored (as is Sen. Johnson in this Op-Ed in the Wall Street Journal). When health and wellness information is censored, it begs the question, why? What is so dangerous about a remedy that is generally used for treating lice in children?

As for vaccine news, you'll see below that a host of countries are now changing recommendations or flat-out saying no to Pfizer, AstraZeneca, and Johnson & Johnson. Merck has halted their vaccine trials to focus on treatment for the virus, and the CDC is being scrutinized for its mixed recommendations on whether those who have had Covid should take the vaccine. As always, we encourage you to do your research and provide the below links to help facilitate varying points of view. We're here to help, so please reach out if you have questions or thoughts.

*Just in case you need it again, here's a link to Dr. Kory and the Frontline Alliance's recommended protocol for treating Covid.

Italy agency cautious on AstraZeneca jab for over 55s

Italy's medicines agency on Saturday approved the AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine for all adults but recommended alternatives be given to people aged over 55. AIFA's decision comes a day after the European Union gave the green light for the jab, but Germany's vaccine commission recommended against using it on older people amid questions over its effectiveness that have been rejected by the company.

Pfizer drops India vaccine application after regulator seeks local trial

Pfizer Inc said on Friday it had withdrawn an application for emergency-use authorisation of its COVID-19 vaccine in India, after failing to meet the drug regulator's demand for a local safety and immunogenicity study. The decision means the vaccine will not be available for sale in the world's two most populous countries, India and China, in the near future. Both countries are running their immunisation campaigns using other products. The drug regulator said on its website its experts did not recommend the vaccine because of side effects reported abroad were still being investigated. It also said Pfizer had not proposed any plan to generate safety and immunogenicity data in India.

CDC misinformation on Covid-19 vaccines

"The question is whether they should go ahead and get vaccinated at a time when there are vaccine shortages and others need the vaccine more. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has been telling people who have previously been infected that they can go ahead and get the shot. But they have been falsely quoting scientific studies to support that position. CDC says the studies proved the vaccines are effective for those who had coronavirus. But that’s not what the studies say. A Full Measure investigation found that an outside scientist, Congressman Thomas Massie (R-Kentucky), discovered the error and contacted top scientists at CDC to try to get them to fix it."

The Second Covid-19 Shot is a Rude Reawakening for Immune Cells

"At about 2 a.m. on Thursday morning, I woke to find my husband shivering beside me. For hours, he had been tossing in bed, exhausted but unable to sleep, nursing chills, a fever, and an agonizingly sore left arm. His teeth chattered. His forehead was freckled with sweat. And as I lay next to him, cinching blanket after blanket around his arms, I felt an immense sense of relief. All this misery was a sign that the immune cells in his body had been riled up by the second shot of a COVID-19 vaccine, and were well on their way to guarding him from future disease. The provocative nature of mRNA might help explain why Moderna’s shot, which contains three times as much of the genetic material as Pfizer’s, was linked to more side effects in clinical trials."

Lavishly funded Moderna hits safety problems in bold bid to revolutionze medicine

An article on Moderna from 2017:

"Founded in 2012, Moderna reached unicorn status — a $1 billion valuation — in just two years, faster than Uber, Dropbox, and Lyft, according to CB Insights. The company’s premise: Using custom-built strands of messenger RNA, known as mRNA, it aims to turn the body’s cells into ad hoc drug factories, compelling them to produce the proteins needed to treat a wide variety of diseases. But mRNA is a tricky technology. Several major pharmaceutical companies have tried and abandoned the idea, struggling to get mRNA into cells without triggering nasty side effects. Bancel has repeatedly promised that Moderna’s new therapies will change the world, but the company has refused to publish any data on its mRNA vehicles, sparking skepticism from some scientists and a chiding from the editors of Nature."

While pregnancy puts women at a higher risk of severe COVID-19, the use of this vaccine in pregnant women is currently not recommended, unless they are at risk of high exposure (e.g. health workers).

Individuals with a history of severe allergic reaction to any component of the vaccine should not take this or any other mRNA vaccine.

While vaccination is recommended for older persons due to the high risk of severe COVID-19 and death, very frail older persons with an anticipated life expectancy of less than 3 months should be individually assessed.

The vaccine should not be administered to persons younger than 18 years of age pending the results of further studies."

Plitidepsin has potent preclinical efficacy against SARS-CoV-2 by targeting the host protein eEF1A

"SARS-CoV-2 viral proteins interact with the eukaryotic translation machinery and inhibitors of translation have potent antiviral effects. Here we report that the drug plitidepsin (aplidin), which has limited clinical approval, possesses antiviral activity (IC90 = 0.88 nM) 27.5-fold more potent than remdesivir against SARS-CoV-2 in vitro, with limited toxicity in cell culture. Through the use of a drug resistant mutant, we show that the antiviral activity of plitidepsin against SARS-CoV-2 is mediated through inhibition of the known target eEF1A. We demonstrate the in vivo efficacy of plitidepsin treatment in two mouse models of SARS-CoV-2 infection with a reduction of viral replication in the lungs by two orders of magnitude using prophylactic treatment. Our results indicate that plitidepsin is a promising therapeutic candidate for COVID-19."

Pathophysiological Basis and Rationale for Early Outpatient Treatment of SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) Infection

"Approximately 9 months of the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavius-2 (SARS-CoV-2 [COVID-19]) spreading across the globe has led to widespread COVID-19 acute hospitalizations and death. The rapidity and highly communicable nature of the SARS-CoV-2 outbreak has hampered the design and execution of definitive randomized, controlled trials of therapy outside of the clinic or hospital. In the absence of clinical trial results, physicians must use what has been learned about the pathophysiology of SARS-CoV-2 infection in determining early outpatient treatment of the illness with the aim of preventing hospitalization or death. This article outlines key pathophysiological principles that relate to the patient with early infection treated at home. Therapeutic approaches based on these principles include 1) reduction of reinoculation, 2) combination antiviral therapy, 3) immunomodulation, 4) antiplatelet/antithrombotic therapy, and 5) administration of oxygen, monitoring, and telemedicine. Future randomized trials testing the principles and agents discussed will undoubtedly refine and clarify their individual roles; however, we emphasize the immediate need for management guidance in the setting of widespread hospital resource consumption, morbidity, and mortality."

Bromelain Inhibits SARS-CoV-2 Infection in VeroE6 Cells

"Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2). The initial interaction between Transmembrane Serine Protease 2 (TMPRSS2) primed SARS-CoV-2 spike (S) protein and host cell receptor angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE-2) is a pre-requisite step for this novel coronavirus pathogenesis. Here, we expressed a GFP-tagged SARS-CoV-2 S-Ectodomain in Tni insect cells. That contained sialic acid-enriched N- and O-glycans. Surface resonance plasmon (SPR) and Luminex assay showed that the purified S-Ectodomain binding to human ACE-2 and immunoreactivity with COVID-19 positive samples. We demonstrate that bromelain (isolated from pineapple stem and used as a dietary supplement) treatment diminishes the expression of ACE-2 and TMPRSS2 in VeroE6 cells and dramatically lowers the expression of S-Ectodomain. Importantly, bromelain treatment reduced the interaction between S-Ectodomain and VeroE6 cells. Most importantly, bromelain treatment significantly diminished the SARS-CoV-2 infection in VeroE6 cells. Altogether, our results suggest that bromelain or bromelain rich pineapple stem may be used as an antiviral against COVID-19."

Role of vitamin D in regulating COVID‐19 severity—An immunological perspective

"Vitamin D, a key nutrient/prohormone classically associated with skeletal health, is also an important immunomodulator, with pleotropic effects on innate and adaptive immune cells. Outcomes of several chronic, autoimmune, and infectious diseases are linked to vitamin D. Emergent correlations of vitamin D insufficiency with coronavirus‐induced disease 2019 (COVID‐19) severity, alongside empirical and clinical evidence of immunoregulation by vitamin D in other pulmonary diseases, have prompted proposals of vitamin D supplementation to curb the COVID‐19 public health toll. In this review paper, we engage an immunological lens to discuss potential mechanisms by which vitamin D signals might regulate respiratory disease severity in severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS‐CoV2) infections, vis a vis other pulmonary infections. It is proposed that vitamin D signals temper lung inflammatory cascades during SARS‐CoV2 infection, and insufficiency of vitamin D causes increased inflammatory cytokine storm, thus leading to exacerbated respiratory disease. Additionally, analogous to studies of reduced cancer incidence, the dosage of vitamin D compounds administered to patients near the upper limit of safety may serve to maximize immune health benefits and mitigate inflammation and disease severity in SARS‐CoV2 infections. We further deliberate on the importance of statistically powered clinical correlative and interventional studies, and the need for in‐depth basic research into vitamin D‐dependent host determinants of respiratory disease severity."

A healthy microbiome builds a strong immune system that could help defeat COVID-19

"Bacteria in our guts can elicit an effective immune response against viruses that not only infect the gut, such as norovirus and rotavirus, but also those infecting the lungs, such as the flu virus. The beneficial gut microbes do this by ordering specialized immune cells to produce potent antiviral proteins that ultimately eliminate viral infections. And the body of a person lacking these beneficial gut bacteria won’t have as strong an immune response to invading viruses. As a result, infections might go unchecked, taking a toll on health."

COVID-19 Data Collection, Comorbidity & Federal Law: A Historical Retrospective

"According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on August 23, 2020, “For 6% of the deaths, COVID-19 was the only cause mentioned. For deaths with conditions or causes in addition to COVID-19 , on average, there were 2.6 additional conditions or causes per death.”[1] For a nation tormented by restrictive public health policies mandated for healthy individuals and small businesses, this is the most important statistical revelation of this crisis. This revelation significantly impacts the published fatalities count due to COVID-19. More importantly, it exposes major problems with the process by which the CDC was able to generate inaccurate data during a crisis. The CDC has advocated for social isolation, social distancing, and personal protective equipment use as primary mitigation strategies in response to the COVID-19 crisis, while simultaneously refusing to acknowledge the promise of inexpensive pharmaceutical and natural treatments. These mitigation strategies were promoted largely in response to projection model fatality forecasts that have proven to be substantially inaccurate. Further investigation into the legality of the methods used to create these strategies raised additional concerns and questions. Why would the CDC decide against using a system of data collection & reporting they authored, and which has been in use nationwide for 17 years without incident, in favor of an untested & unproven system exclusively for COVID-19 without discussion and peer-review? Did the CDC’s decision to abandon a known and proven effective system also breach several federal laws that ensure data accuracy and integrity? Did the CDC knowingly alter rules for reporting cause of death in the presence of comorbidity exclusively for COVID-19? If so, why?"

A Critical Review of CDC USA Data on Covid-19: PCR/Antigen Tests & Cases Reveal Herd Immunity Only, & Do Not Warrant Public Hysteria or Lockdowns

"Basic annual all-cause deaths data, when reviewed in light of a claimed Covid-19 pandemic and decadal expectations from annual increases in population growth, revealed no overall surge in USA deaths for 2020. Age-specific analysis also failed to confirm any significant increase in Covid-19 deaths among populations of high-risk elderly 65+ years as compared to all-cause deaths within the same demographic. The Centers for Disease Control's (CDC) "daily confirmed-case and confirmed-deaths" data on Covid-19 were also reviewed as plotted together on the same ordinate scale, along the vertical axis, revealing a less frightening perspective of daily confirmed death numbers from the claimed "pandemic" than is usually reported on "official science" and media websites with graphical and numerical exaggerations. Daily death/case ratios failed to affirm any significant growth or spread of an expected deadly viral pandemic, except for the initial period of March-April 2020, which quickly subsided. These direct reviews of the official CDC data, formulated within the existing paradigm of a claimed deadly SARS-CoV-2 virus and Covid-19 disease, expose multiple contradictions to basic causality and logic. Problems in PCR/Antigen tests and electron-microscopy for specific identification of SARS-CoV-2 are exposed, indicating cross-reactivity and confusions with other corona viruses and their DNA/RNA fragments, along with antibodies to them. The claimed Covid-19 tests thereby do not appear specific to the living SARS-CoV-2 virus, which is why lab-confirmed cases among asymptomatic people have soared to dramatically high numbers, while lab-confirmed deaths have not. Other contradictions in CDC data were identified, and can best be understood as deaths from ordinary seasonal respiratory disorders such as influenza or pneumonia being inappropriately reclassified as Covid-19. Soaring "case" numbers therefore would reflect herd immunity only, possibly as early as May of 2020. These conclusions are not confined to the USA data, but appear global."

Scientists unravel mystery of sex disparities in COVID-19 outcomes

"Essentially, women have immune system reinforcements they can call upon early in infections that men, with their single X chromosomes, don’t possess. Sex hormones also play key roles in susceptibility to bad outcomes, research has shown. In a mouse model of SARS-CoV infection, higher mortality in male mice was observed and attributed to the protective roles of the female sex hormone estrogen. The presence of estrogen can help suppress ACE 2, a receptor on the surface of many cells that is used by SARS-CoV-2 to enter cells. Conversely, the male hormone androgen appears to enhance the ability of the virus to infect cells. A study found that men undergoing androgen deprivation therapy for prostate cancer appear to be less susceptible to infection by the COVID-19 virus. In addition, age amplifies and sometimes sabotages a man’s immune response to COVID-19 infection."
