How It Works

I just finished reading the book “Quench” by Dr.Dana Cohen, a functional medicine doctor in NYC. You can probably guess the topic of the book - almost 200 pages devoted to water and as it says on the book’s jacket, it is not about how much water you drink as it is when you drink it. I decided to implement one of the strategies that made sense to me and recalled this was a Cameron Diaz trick from years ago when she talked about her health. I place a large glass of water on my nightstand before I go to bed. The following morning when I wake up, I sit up and place my feet on the floor and begin to drink (almost guzzle) this glass of water. While at first I had to force myself to do this (my nature is to drink a cup of coffee first thing), from the first time I did it, I noticed the benefits. I could feel the cold water drenching and quenching my insides, but even more amazing- I had so much more energy the entire day. Because our bodies get dehydrated during the night, it makes so much sense to begin your day this way. I no longer make caffeine my first beverage of the day and my energy levels are happy about that! Don’t know what took so long for me to be woke about water, but glad I figured it out ;)

I do this, with a twist: I drink warm water with lemon (or lime) every morning right when I wake up. I also find it leaves me feeling more hydrated and more energized throughout the day :)
