My partner and I both had upset stomachs / indigestion one day after a big lunch while in India (Kerala). Our host suggested we each eat a peppercorn, which was conveniently growing in the yard. My partner ate one, I ate two, and within 15 minutes we both felt better. We're planning to plant some peppercorn back home so that we can have it on hand (not sure where to buy it fresh otherwise).
