How It Works

When our children were little they were exposed to sugary drinks at school and parties. They asked for them at home and we preferred they explore healthier beverages. So I made a tasty substitute the children love, especially when you tell them that it is usually just for adults, but that some children like it. I call it

"apple lemonade".

I used an Omega Juicer, but any good juicer can manage the fruity load.

Ingredients for 12oz drink

3 medium apples cup to size for juicing. Juice the skin and seeds. It is all good.

1 small wedge of lemon including the skin. The skin might be just 1/8th".

Juice some apple, then some lemon, then some apple.

That is all. Pour it and drink it. The lemon alkalizes the blood. Your kids might not be interested, but just happy to enjoy an "adult pleasure".

Hint: Make a glass for yourself. I think you are going to like it.

Apple lemonade with a ginger kick is great for respiratory system.

Same recipe as apple lemonade but add a slice of ginger. Think about a thumb width and an 8th" thick.

For sharper kick, more ginger. Careful. Too much gets hot like pepper.

If you like it hot, here is a third variation:

Apple lemonade with the lemon, ginger, and now add 1/2 teaspoon of ground cinnamon. This will taste great and add a bit of balance to the blood sugar.

What You’ll Need

  • a juice extractor, 3 apples, a piece of lemon, a piece of ginger, a spoon of cinnamon

Story

I started selling juicers for BRAUN in 1973. We had healthy looking demonstrators. Two sisters from Estonia had such beautiful complexions. They were so pretty. They looked like they sculpted from butter, and they had grown children. They lived healthy lives. Another demonstrator was impressive for all that and her extra-ordinary vigor into advanced years. She used to take the bus from Paramus, NJ carrying her juicer, cutting board, knife, cups and a bag of produce all the way to Bloomingdales. She worked until she was in her eighties and then slowed down to working only in the Jersey branch stores. I was impressed with the juicing life-style. Later in my career I was the agent for Olympic/Omega juicers and I did public demos. I usually made apples, celery and carrots, because that is what most people juiced in the eighties. But I experimented with apple lemonade and found that children loved it, especially my own. We were quite enthusiastic about juice and got creative.

What do you think?

I do this now for my son, and he loves it! He won't even drink juice boxes because the added sugar is too sweet.

Delicious! Apple lemonade is still one of my favorites – even better with ginger :)
