How It Works

Exhale.  We cannot live without our breath and it is my first go-to for keeping a clear mind when things get challenging.  Keep in mind, it is the exhale that stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system, so focus on the out breath instead of the inhale.

Gratitude.  It is like spiritual Xanax.  You have to get granular if you want it to work, so when you’re feeling anxiety take over first exhale, then pause your thoughts.  Then think of a list of things you’re grateful for from the fact that your car started today all the way to the time someone recommended the photography class in college that led to your current amazing career!

Sleep.  Another tip that won’t cost you anything and has no side effects is chanting Om, just like at the end of a yoga class.  The Om chant naturally stimulates the pineal gland and secretes melatonin so you get sleepy! Try it 10 times and see if you get a better night’s sleep.

Story

These tips are from my Success Alchemy program. The Success Alchemy stress busters are rooted in the ancient practices of Ayurveda and Five Elements Psychology.

The very first level of stress reduction is achieved through the breath. Breathing correlates to gratitude on a spiritual level, so once we can find our breath, we can elevate the effort to graciousness and gratitude for a deeper calm.

When calm is achieved, we are able to quiet our minds, listen deeply and achieve restful sleep.
