How It Works

Essential Oils are wonderful for your skin and hair. I’ve found that some Essential Oils strengthen and improve the texture of your hair better than others. And they smell great to boot.

Lavender is my favorite EO for skin and hair. Lavender increases the number of hair follicles for a thicker head of hair. It also works to relieve stress in the body and stress is known to cause hair loss.

Rosemary works well to minimize scalp itchiness and flakes and studies show it is effective against balding when used as a treatment for at least 6 months. My favorite thing about Rosemary EO is that it helps treat both dry dull hair as well as oily hair. It also helps prevent split ends as it stimulates the hair follicles.

Peppermint is an excellent EO for increased hair growth, thickness and length as it deepens the hair follicles which stimulates hair growth. Studies show it is as effective as conventional over the counter products when mixed with jojoba oil and applied for 6 months, but with no side effects!

Lemongrass is a fantastic EO for hair as it has both antiviral and anti fungal properties which make it useful for a variety of different scalp conditions.

Ylang Ylang has been a popular hair growth remedy since Victorian England times. This EO works by stimulating hair growth and is great to treat thinning hair and also stimulates the production of the scalp’s natural sebum to nourish damaged and dry hair.

Cedarwood is a great EO for stimulating the hair follicles since it increases circulation to the scalp and will combat thinning hair. It also has a woodsy / earthy masculine scent to combat the sweet smells of Lavendar and Ylang Ylang. Think Ying and Yang.

Tea Tree is the most popular EO for soothing damaged skin and scalp. It is an anti fungal so it treats itchiness, dryness and dandruff. It has been show to slow hair loss and increase hair growth.

Start with a good carrier oil like Almond Oil or Coconut oil or Jojoba oil or Castor Oil, you can make a mixture of all 4

Dilute Essential Oils in a carrier oil

Part the hair and apply the oil directly to the scalp in sections, similar to when you are coloring your hair

Press your fingers firmly into the scalp, massaging the oil mixture into the scalp back and forth with your fingers, This helps stimulate the scalp and promotes hair growth. Leave in the hair for a couple of hours and wash out and let air dry or leave it in as a deep conditioning treatment overnight.

Story

I am a Licensed Massage Therapist and a brain cancer survivor. I have been mixing essential oils for years for my good health. I started to experience thinning hair in my 40's and became my own guinea pig. When I find something that works, I want to share it with my clients, and the world.

I lost a bunch of hair due to a parasite and my acupuncturist recommended rubbing fresh ginger on my scalp every night for a month to help it grow back. Haven't tried it yet, so who knows, but am adding the essential oils to my list of what to do after the month-long ginger experiment!
