How It Works

Pilates is a gentle yet powerful method of exercise that is designed to give your back a break while strengthening the core muscle groups that stabilize your spine. If you are experiencing back pain you may find lasting relief and experience the benefits of Pilates with a regular practice of Mat classes and private lessons from a comprehensively trained classical instructor. Please be in touch if you need help finding and instructor in your local area or to book an at-home Mat Class with me on Skype.

Story

When I was 17 I suffered a back injury that left me in chronic pain. Doctors where baffled when I was left with chronic pain months after the healing window had closed. They told me that I was young and would be fine as long as I completed Physical Therapy. After 3 months of regular Physical Therapy I was still in pain every day. That is when I decided to take matters into my own hands and began seeking relief in other alternative ways. I went to every class at the gym looking for something that made me feel better and I stumbled upon Pilates almost by accident. Quickly I began to feel better and see results so I became devoted to taking mat classes and even started taking personal training lessons at the gym. Soon, I approached my Pilates teacher to seek out teacher training for myself. She took me to New York City to meet her teachers with the intention of preparing me to start a Pilates apprenticeship that would last a year. Under the tutelage of master teachers, I learned more about dynamic movement and injury prevention than I ever had in my whole life. I was certified to teach professionally in 2008. Every year I take continuing education and personal training sessions for myself to keep my teaching practice fresh and my back feeling great. And although I still occasionally have days where my back is achy and sore I know how to give my body what it needs to remain strong and active for the days ahead.

Today I have been teaching Pilates for just over a decade and I will depend on it to remain pain free for the rest of my life. I have taught in boutique fitness studios and large gyms all over Manhattan and I have helped people with all kinds of injuries and physical limitations to feel strong and confident in their bodies. It never ceases to amaze me how every time I practice Pilates it makes me feel better about my body and my life.

Thanks so much for sharing! So many seem to struggle with back pain and are searching for non-medical, non-invasive help. I will help spread the word about Pilates as an option!!
